چکیده

We review the work on data-driven grasp synthesis and the methodologies for sampling and ranking candidate grasps. We divide the approaches into three groups based on whether they synthesize grasps for known, familiar or unknown objects. This structure allows us to identify common object representations and perceptual processes that facilitate the employed data-driven grasp synthesis technique. In the case of known objects, we concentrate on the approaches that are based on object recognition and pose estimation. In the case of familiar objects, the techniques use some form of a similarity matching to a set of previously encountered objects. Finally for the approaches dealing with unknown objects, the core part is the extraction of specific features that are indicative of good grasps. Our survey provides an overview of the different methodologies and discusses open problems in the area of robot grasping. We also draw a parallel to the classical approaches that rely on analytic formulations.

Grasp synthesis from low-dimensional probabilistic grasp models

We propose a novel data-driven animation method for the synthesis of natural looking human grasping. Motion data captured from human grasp actions is used to train a probabilistic model of the human grasp space. This model greatly reduces the high number of degrees of freedom of the human hand to a few dimensions in a continuous grasp space. The low dimensionality of the grasp space in turn all...

Low-Dimensional Data-Driven Grasping

In general, automatic grasp synthesis can be thought of the task of finding the combination of hand posture (intrinsic degrees of freedom, or DOF’s) and position (extrinsic DOF’s) that produces a stable grasp, according to a given grasp quality metric. From this perspective, it can be approached as an optimization problem, seeking to maximize the value of the grasp quality Q expressed as a func...

3D Objects Grasps Synthesis: A Survey

This survey reviews computational algorithms for generating 3D objects grasps with autonomous multi-fingered robotic hands. Over the past 20 years, grasping has been an increasingly active research area. Existing papers focus on reviewing the mechanics of grasping and the finger-object contacts interactions [21] or robot hand design and their control [4]. Robot grasp synthesis algorithms has be...

Database-Driven Grasp Synthesis and Ergonomic Assessment for Handheld Product Design

Recently, simulation-based ergonomic assessments for handheld products, such as mobile phones, have seen a growing interest and have been increasingly studied. In these studies, the combination of 3D product models and “digital hands”, which are a parametric 3D models of human hands, have been used. One of the keys to the ergonomic assessment using the digital hand is the “grasp synthesis” wher...

Grasp analysis of a four-fingered robotic hand based on Matlab simmechanics

The structure of the human hand is a complex design comprising of various bones, joints, tendons, and muscles functioning together in order to produce the desired motion. It becomes a challenging task to develop a robotic hand replicating the capabilities of the human hand. In this paper, the analysis of the four-fingered robotic hand is carried out where the tendon wires and a spring return me...
